Find words in a document

Search the page or the whole document, with match case, whole word and pattern options.

Find shows every place a word or phrase appears and highlights it on the page.

Steps

  1. Press Ctrl+F, or in the rail choose Edit, then Find in the Find group. The Search tab of the document panel opens.
  2. Type what you are looking for in Find text and choose Search this page.
  3. To search every page, choose Search all pages. Progress shows as it goes; Cancel stops it.
  4. Use Next match and Previous match to step through the results. Match … of … (for example "Match 3 of 12") tells you where you are.
  5. Narrow the search with Match case, Whole word or Regular expression.

Good to know

  • Shortcut: Ctrl+F.
  • You can also select text on the page, right-click it and choose Search for this.
  • A phrase that runs onto the next line is still found. Words split by a hyphen at the end of a line are not found as one word.
  • Scanned pages can be searched after their text is recognised.
  • To change words everywhere, see "Find and replace text".
