Use bookmarks and links

The Bookmarks tab shows the document's outline and the links on the page you are reading.

Many PDFs come with an outline (bookmarks) of their headings. The Bookmarks tab lists them, along with the links on the current page.

Steps

  1. In the document panel, choose the Bookmarks tab.
  2. Under Outline, choose a heading to go to its page.
  3. Under Links on this page, choose Go to page … to follow a link inside the document, or Opens … to open a link to a website.

Good to know

  • An outline entry that goes nowhere is shown as "(goes nowhere)" and cannot be chosen.
  • Before a link to a website opens, Monstera shows you its address and asks. Only web (https://, http://) and email (mailto:) links can be opened.
  • Beside each link are two controls for how it is drawn in the document itself: a choice of No outline, Thin line, Thick line or Dashed line, and a colour. They change the file, so any PDF reader shows the same outline. A link the document drew some other way says As the document has it until you choose one of the four. Undo with Ctrl+Z.
  • You can also click a link where it is on the page. Hold the pointer over it to see where it goes.
  • If the document has no outline, the tab says so.
