Fill a form where it is on the page, or from the Forms tab, which lists every field in the document with a control to fill it in.
Steps
- On the page, click a field. A text field opens for typing over itself: type, then press Enter or click elsewhere, or press Esc to leave it as it was. In a field with several lines, Enter starts a new line, and clicking elsewhere finishes.
- Click a tick box to tick or untick it, and click an option to choose it; clicking the chosen option clears it. Click a dropdown or a list to choose from it.
- Or, in the document panel, choose the Forms tab, or in the rail choose Forms, then Fields list in the Fields group. Each row shows the field's name, its kind and its page. Choose Go to page … to see it on the page.
- Fill it in there: type in a text field and press Enter or move away; tick a Tick box or Option; pick from a Dropdown or List.
- Save the document to keep what you entered.
Good to know
- A field the document marks as read-only says The document marks this field read-only. in the Forms tab, and clicking it on the page does nothing. Signature fields and buttons cannot be filled here.
- A date field has a calendar: choose Choose a date at its right edge, or press Alt+Down. To go far back, such as to a date of birth, choose the month's name at the top to see the months, again to see the years, and again to see the decades, then choose the decade, the year, the month and the day. Ctrl+Up does the same from the keyboard, and Enter chooses. Today picks today's date. You can always type the date instead.
- A list field that holds several choices at once is shown but cannot be changed here.
- Monstera never runs scripts from documents, to keep your computer safe, so a field worked out by a script won't update by itself: it is marked with a small braces sign, { }, and Monstera tells you which fields when you open the form. Standard sums and formats still work.
- Every field is listed, however large the form.
- A form with no fields at all? Try "Find fields on a flat form", or type on it with the Typewriter.
- To start again, in the rail choose Forms, then Reset form in the Data group, and confirm with Reset form. Every field goes back to how the form started; signatures stay as they are. It works whether or not the form has its own reset button.
- Undo with Ctrl+Z.
