Help Scans, OCR and handwriting

Save a searchable copy of a scan

Recognise every scanned page and save the result as a new searchable PDF.

Export a searchable copy recognises the text on every scanned page and then saves a copy of the document.

Steps

  1. In the rail, choose Tools, then Searchable copy in the OCR group (Export a searchable copy).
  2. Choose the language and start recognition, as for "Make scanned pages searchable".
  3. When it finishes, choose where to save the copy.

Good to know

  • The recognised text is also added to the open document; undo it page by page with Ctrl+Z if you do not want it there.
  • Pages that already had text, and your comments, fields and bookmarks, are kept as they are.
  • If you stop recognition early, no copy is saved.
